ALAMEDA, CA — Last weekend, Alameda Patch asked on our Facebook page, "If you could bring back one local business that closed in town (it doesn't matter how long ago), which would it be?" The question struck a nerve, with dozens of Alameda residents offering their responses. While we asked for "one" business, some people provided entire lists of places. Many are restaurants, but retail stores and entertainment venues were also included. Juanita's and Acapulco received several mentions, along with multiple likes on the responses. Velvet Creamery is dearly missed by many. Erica Hood remembers that they served the "best chef salad and grilled cheese ever." Kamakura got several mentions and likes. Some places are missed because of the people connected with them. Jennifer Megan said, "I miss going to Tillies with my dad on the weekends." Some of the stores that were singled out are Denim and Diamonds, Video Station, Titas House of Games and Alameda Hobbycraft. "Neptune Beach!" said Cynthia Spease-Gracie. "I have always fantasized what it would be like back then to go there for a day" Join the conversation on the Alameda Facebook page.
