Dearborn Police Launch New Traffic Safety Program

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn residents can expect to see a significant increase in police cruisers throughout the city's neighborhoods, as the department launched its new Traffic Safety Unit on Tuesday. Aside from shifting their focus to speeders, reckless drivers and other driving violations that directly endanger public health and safety, officers will also respond to resident complaints in person, officials said. "Mayor Hammoud and I have heard from countless residents about the public safety issues and concerns that matter to them," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said. "It was clear from these conversations that the public wants us to focus on road safety and hazardous driving." Officials also started a Traffic Report System where residents can report traffic related problems in their neighborhoods. Reports can be filed online at dearbornpolice.com, cityofdearborn.org or by email at [email protected]. Traffic safety issues can also be reported in person at the front desk of the Police station, or to any officer on the street or by calling 313-943-3030. "This unit is a direct result of conversations with the community,"Shahin said. "We are showing residents through this program that we are listening and taking action with their feedback."
