PHOENIX, AZ —Phoenix Children's Hospital announced Thursday that it has received a $125,000 grant from The Boeing Company to support the hospital's Homeless Youth Outreach (HYO) program. The investment will allow HYO to continue to provide primary and preventative medical services to Arizona's homeless youth population, the hospital said. The Phoenix Children's HYO program, which is now in its 21st year, provides 31 weekly half-day clinics utilizing two Mobil Medical Units (MMU) and three fixed-site clinics. The program serves children and youth ranging in age from birth through 24, who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Prior to the pandemic, the HYO program continually served more than 1,500 unique patients through more than 9,000 encounters per year, according to representatives from Phoenix Children's. Among the services offered by the program are: comprehensive health screenings, medical treatment, medical/community referral and referral follow-up, financial advocacy, community outreach and wellness programs, and behavioral health services. Without these services, many of the children and youth served by the HYO program would not receive medical care until they are required to utilize emergency rooms and urgent care centers, which places a tremendous financial burden on the healthcare system and surrounding community, according to Phoenix Children's. Boeing, one of the world's leading aerospace companies, said the donation is in alignment with its mission to support outreach projects that directly improve access to quality healthcare for historically underserved communities. "We are proud to support the important work being done through this program," said Donna Golub, supply chain manager at Boeing and the co-chair of the Diversity Council at Boeing's Mesa site. "Phoenix Children's is such an amazing organization, and our employees enjoy volunteering with them and making a difference in these children's lives. "We are truly thankful for all you (Phoenix Children's) do for our children and families in our communities."
