RIVERHEAD, NY — A person armed with a handgun tried to gain entry into a window at the Greenview Inn on West Main Street in Riverhead Wednesday night, police said. According to Riverhead Town Police, a call came in about an attempted burglary at 10:53 p.m. The person who made the report said that a person with a handgun tried to enter the room, kicking the door then trying to get through the window, before fleeing the area, police said. The person was reportedly wearing dark clothing, a face covering, and sunglasses, police said. Despite a search of the area by Riverhead Police officers and a K-9 unit, no one was found. Riverhead detectives also responded to help with the investigation, police said. Anyone with any information in regards to the incident is asked to call the Riverhead Town Police at 631-727-4500.
