RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was charged in Riverhead early Thursday after he "violently resisted" arrest, police said. According to Riverhead Town Police, at 4:31 a.m., a 911 call came in about a domestic incident on West Main Street. Stanley Battle, 37, who is homeless, violated a stay away order of protection, then fled the area, police said. At 8:17 a.m., patrol officers saw Battle on foot near Grangebel Park, police said. A short foot pursuit ensued; Battle was stopped, then "violently resisted" arrest, police said. He was taken into custody without injury to Battle or the officers involved and charged with first-degree criminal contempt; second-degree harassment; and resisting arrest, police said. Also, Battle was charged with two unrelated robberies, police said. On October 31, 2021 at 9:39 p.m., Battle, while aided by another, forcibly stole money from two males at Grangeble Park, police said. He was charged with second-degree robbery, police said. On February 20, at 4:09 p.m., Battle, while helped by someone else, forcibly stole money from a male at the Riverside Laundromat on West Main Street, police said. He was charged with second-degree robbery and second-degree assault, police said. Battle was held at the Riverhead Town Police Department headquarters to await arraignment, police said.
