The City of Superior is looking to hire a part-time Library Custodian. Part-time position will receive paid time off and longevity when eligible. SCHEDULE: 16 hours/week - Morning hours Four week days per week: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm (schedule may be flexible) STARTING WAGE: $13.34/hour (2022 wage) Top step is $17.15/hour of an 11 step wage plan. DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs routine cleaning tasks and performs related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Custodian position performs routine manual work requiring the efficient performance of recurring tasks. An employee in this class is responsible for keeping assigned areas clean and orderly. The work is reviewed by inspection. TYPICAL TASKS: Washes main desks, top and inside. Washes the outside of the desks. Vacuum display shelves, computer shelves, book bins, magazine shelves, tops of books and window blinds as required. Cleans lavatory counters, sinks, mirrors and toilets, replacing toweling and other supplies; spot cleans waste containers and walls, sweeps and mops floors. Once a week or more often as required, cleans the refrigerator, stove and microwave oven inside and out and cleans cupboards and contents, keeps the coffeepot clean and washes dishes in the staff room; cleans kitchen in public meeting room as needed. Dusts book stacks and art in art gallery, and vacuums following dusting task. Dusts furniture throughout the Library. Cleans and dusts tables, desks, and window sills. Cleans glass in the main entrance doors and display cases. Washes windows inside and outside of the library and the front doors. Cleans computer monitors and keyboards, microfilm reader printers, and copiers. Cleans and sanitizes drinking fountains and telephones. Empties cigarette urns and wastebaskets. Maintains an adequate level of cleaning and paper supplies in the storage room and keeps the washrooms supplied with paper towels, toilet tissue and soap. Shovels snow, spreads sand or salt, and sweeps sidewalks. May perform cleanup where exposure exists of blood borne pathogens or hazardous material. Sets up and takes down chairs and furniture for Library business. Acts as back up for Library Building Services Maintenance Worker cleaning assignments during vacation and sick leave absences. Communicates with Building Maintenance Worker about needed maintenance and repairs. Picks up trash and debris around perimeter of building. Vacuums, sweeps, and mops floors throughout the library. Cleans meeting rooms and public areas, shampoos carpet. Opens and closes library as needed. Perform other duties as required by the Library Director. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Knowledges: Some knowledge of: Cleaning methods and the use of cleaning supplies and equipment; Ability to: Read and understand information contained on Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for cleaning products; Follow general safety provisions for completing assigned tasks; Follow simple oral and written instructions; Establish and maintain effective working relations with staff and the public; Lift up to 50 pounds and carry such things as a vacuum cleaner; Carry pails of water up and down stairs and stepladders; Lift, set-up and climb a 12 foot step ladder to change light bulbs and clean windows. REQUIREMENTS: Training and experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledges and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledges and abilities would be: Completion of high school or possession of GED and six (6) months of experience in cleaning offices and buildings. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Driver License Requirement: Must possess valid driver's license or be able to provide suitable transportation as approved by the department head. Residency Requirement: No residency requirement Background Investigation Requirement: Must complete a background investigation prior to hire.
