Job Title: Irrigation Technician Area: Horticulture General Purpose: Irrigation Controls/Maintenance Reporting to this position: No Direct Reports Position Summary: Oversee the irrigation delivery system at the property. Coordinate contractor foreman and consultants and perform hands-on maintenance. Responsible to ensure grounds, turf, trees, and ornamentals receive proper water quantities and quality so all are maintained to the highest aesthetic standards. Position Responsibilities: • Partner with Horticulture Manager to meet objectives • Partner with company team members to provide property support • Align with company goals to achieve Service Excellence • Oversee all aspects of the property irrigation system (wells, reservoir, pumps, computer controls, weather station, infrastructure, distribution) • Participate in the daily activities of the grounds support team to achieve the highest level of service, detail, and performance standards • Oversee the irrigation system and conduct frequent reviews of the physical surroundings to ensure quality issues are identified, repaired, mapped, or properly reported • Ensure irrigation and water delivery system repairs/adjustments to ensure proper delivery of supplemental water to all plants • Make recommendations in establishing short and long-range goals and meet goal requirements • Evaluate water quality issues and make recommendations to successfully resolve • Ability to assess disparate information and distill it into a concise report • Carry out special projects as required and directed by the Horticulture Manager and/or Director of Properties • Assist in the application of chemicals to mitigate plant damage by disease, insects, weeds, or drought • Manage Water Filtration and Acid Injection systems. • Participate in the scheduling of repairs for all horticulture department machinery • Assist in the monitoring of refuse pickup including landfill, recycling, & green waste to ensure pickups are completed on schedule Essential skills and experience: • Horticulture, Agronomy, or related. • Possess or willing to obtain a Texas Department of Agriculture Noncommercial Pesticide Applicator License • Knowledge of landscape care and maintenance; turf plants, ornamentals, trees, fertilization, and disease control • Knowledge of irrigation, pump stations, water delivery systems, and computerized irrigation control programs • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; positive attitude • Excellent knowledge of general office procedures; as well as intermediate knowledge smart phone and computer skills • Excellent time management skills; ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects with available resources • Keen attention to detail, honesty, adaptability, dependability, and a willingness to do hands-on work • Ability to maintain a high level of strict confidentiality and professionalism • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record Valued but not required skills and experience: • Private estate/hotel/ hospitality/golf course experience • Bilingual in English/Spanish Physical demands and work environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
