Testing Brake Caliper

Hi My van front passenger brake caliper smoked and replaced with junkyard caliper. still get hot, no smoke. Is that normal? Front driver side rotor broke and replaced with junkyard rotor. this side is getting hot too. how hot rotor get? I want to test it and see Caliper is not getting ceased and slides it back to original position on slider pin. brake pads are suppose to rub on rotor all the time? how the setup work? Van is drivable and can bring to your house or shop. Thanks
