See the recent letter below from HBCSD School Board President Jennifer Cole (or read it here as a PDF) for additional background... Dear Hermosa Beach Students, Staff and Stakeholders, Last night the HBCSD Board proudly passed the Hermosa Beach City School District's Equity Resolution (read it here). This Equity Resolution and subsequent creation of an Equity Task Force, is the next step HBCSD is taking to look at our mission, vision and values through an equity lens. We recognize we have a responsibility to actively oppose racism and discrimination, and guide this work with our students, families, and staff. HBCSD plans to build equity for all with the goal of ending implicit and overt bias in our practices and actions within our learning community. We took into account the data from our Local Control Accountability Plan, California Healthy Kids Survey, anecdotal data reported to the Board from surveys we conducted earlier in the year, and in-person conversations with students to help us outline priorities for the Equity Task Force. The Board believes an Equity Agenda, outlining clear Equity Priorities for the district, will establish a framework to guide the allocation of resources, evaluate district and school performance, promote transparent communication, and foster equitable student achievement goals. If you are interested in joining the HBCSD Equity Task Force, please complete this form and submit by October 8th, 2020. Thank you for joining us in this work. Best, Jen Cole Hermosa Beach City School Board President This press release was produced by the Hermosa Beach City School District. The views expressed here are the author's own.
