Description

TEC2022 brings two days of panels examining technological, policy, financial, and equity issues in electrifying the transportation sector. As climate change becomes a graver threat, the energy sector is tasked with lowering carbon emissions effectively and rapidly. Transportation accounts for almost one-third of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, and the electrification of the transportation sector is critical in working towards a net-zero future. However, electrification is only as effective as the grid is clean. Although the proportion of renewables is rapidly increasing, in 2020 only one-fifth of electricity generation in the U.S. was renewable according to the International Energy Agency. In the fight against climate change, we must electrify transportation in tandem with lowering the grid’s carbon footprint. Transportation electrification will require investment, technological innovation, and creative thinking. Adjusting the energy infrastructure also necessitates global collaboration and a radical shift in the world economy. Those at the forefront of these transformations must account for the uneven environmental impacts of climate change and must serve communities on the local level. The 2022 Tufts Energy Conference will break down and discuss issues of technological innovation, equity, economics, and global networking as they pertain to the future of electrification and transportation. The 2022 Tufts Energy Conference theme is Preparing the Grid: Electrification and Transportation. The Tufts Energy conference has a 17 year legacy of catalyzing rich discussions on some of the most critical energy issues of our time. It is widely attended by students, academics, and seasoned industry professionals on the East Coast. The urgency of the conversation is clear. Our focus is on the transition from contemplation to solutions. We are excited by the opportunity to work with our sponsors and field experts to explore and debate solutions, critique the past, and pave the way forward to create a vibrant and thought-provoking experience for all of our attendees. Please note: the Tufts Energy Conference is a student-run conference. We are excited to provide refreshments and lunch on Friday, but ask that if you are able to support the conference that you please buy a ticket. Regardless, we really appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you there!
