Description

Pre Presbytery conference. Pastoring the church God gave you to. Often, as pastors and elders we may experience in our leadership of our church and not understand why. Perhaps we begin thinking that the frustrations are a sign that we are not cut out for ministry or leadership or something similar. What if it is something else entirely? Churches, like people, can have a certain personality to them and understanding how your leanings mesh with those of your congregation can lead to greater understanding and assistance in leading those God has called you to. What's more, it can help you understand where your congegation may flourish in its mission and where it will struggle. Come join us as Dr. Phil Douglas leads us in understanding all this and more. This conference is a time for the pastors and elders of the Blue Ridge Presbytery to come together, be ministered to, and share together the successes and struggles they are facing in fulfilling the calling God has given them.  Schedule: 11:15 Arrival & Check-In at the Holy Cross office (9 Middlebrook Ave. Staunton) 12:00 p.m. Lunch (provided) at The Depot Grill in Staunton *Please ensure you have ordered via the Wufoo form. Since coming to St. Louis, he has started two churches and more recently served for six years as a weekend pastor of a local church where he mentored students while continuing to teach full-time at the Seminary. Dr. Douglass serves as Chairman of the PCA’s National MNA Committee and Chairman of the Missouri MNA Committee. He formerly directed Covenant Seminary’s Doctor of Ministry program and served as president of the Association of DMin Directors. Dr. Douglass is known for taking time to mentor and assist students in clarifying their sense of calling (each year he meets with approximately 330 students and graduates for at least one hour each), as well as for encouraging a vision for church planting. His book What is Your Church’s Personality?: Discovering and Developing the Ministry Style of Your Church (P&R, 2008) has helped many pastors and pulpit committees understand their unique church ministry style and gifts. Dr. Douglass and his wife, Rebecca, have four married children and six grandchildren.
