Wednesday, March 9: Dr. Thupten Tendhar, Bhikkhu (Buddhism) Wednesday, March 16: Dr. Bilal Ansari, Imam (Islam) Wednesday, March 23: The Rev. Eileen Lindeman, Priest (Christianity) Wednesday, March 30: Dr. Yehezkel Landau, Rabbi (Judaism) Meet our March 9th guest: Thupten Tendhar was a Tibetan Buddhist monk for twenty years. He holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Rhode Island (URI) and a Geshe (doctorate) degree in Buddhist studies from Drepung Loseling Monastic University. He is a certified Level 3 Trainer in Kingian Nonviolence (philosophy and strategy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) from the URI Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies. He serves as the International Nonviolence Summer Institute director, teaching nonviolence globally. He also coordinates and leads training initiatives and inner peace projects at the center. Thupten authored and published two poetry books, namely Peace: Rhythm of My Heart and Love Beating My Heart. He teaches Tibetan Buddhism and Art of Happiness course at URI and RISD and the core seminar in nonviolence theory and research in the M.A. in International Relations program at URI. His primary research focuses on compassion, inner peace, mindfulness, wellbeing, and nonviolence pedagogy.
