An Evening with Irish Poet Paul Muldoon
Internationally acclaimed Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish poet will visit the Jersey Shore for what promises to be a memorable evening of poetry and storytelling. This special event, hosted by the IACI-Jersey Shore Chapter (IACI-JS), is sponsored by the Thomas J. Sharkey Family.
Muldoon is the author of fourteen full-length collections of poetry, including his most recent, “Howdie-Skelp” (2021) which, according to the publisher’s statement, “is the slap in the face a midwife gives a newborn. It’s a wake-up call. A call to action.”
His work includes shorter collections of poetry, criticism, opera libretti, children's books, song lyrics and radio and television drama; he has edited various anthologies, including The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present by Paul McCartney, published in 2021.
The poet describes his birthplace in County Armagh as “a beautiful part of the world. It’s still the place that’s ‘burned into the retina,’ and although I haven’t been back there since I left for university 30 years ago, it’s the place I consider to be my home.”
Muldoon currently occupies the Howard G. B. Clark ’21 Chair in the Humanities at Princeton University where he has taught poetry since 1987 and songwriting since 2013.
