Free admission includes chili tasting, artisan bread side dish by Bread Man, entertainment, and a cash bar for beer and wine. WHAT IS IT? A chili cookoff event and fundraiser event on Saturday, March 5, 2022, bringing together the Houston Exponential innovation ecosystem to celebrate progress, educate the community, and have some Texas-style fun! The finale of Houston Tech Rodeo, the event will include the broader Houston community, drive awareness of startup development resources available to the community, demonstrate new technology, feature local culture, and promote local startup job creation all while benefiting the Southern Smoke Foundation created by world-renowned culinary king and Houstonian Chris Shepard to assist people in need in the food and beverage industry. FREE ADMISSION Free admission by registration includes access to the Softeq Chili Showdown chili cook-off party and tasting event. Competition teams from the innovation ecosystem are working with notable local chefs to prepare their chili beginning Friday night. The event will be open from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and includes chili tasting, a side dish featuring artisan bread baked by Bread Man, a cash bar for beer and wine, and live entertainment on the main stage featuring MC Outspoken Bean and classic rock by Crossing Jordan. The "Tequila Heffe," Jeff Kapustka, will also be offering high-end tequila tasting for a modest donation to Southern Smoke. Admission is also free for children 12 and under when accompanied by a registered parent or guardian. REGISTER A TEAM TO COMPETE Competing teams will work with a notable chef, tell their story through themed booths and compete for best-tasting chili, best side dish, most creative theme, and each team’s ability to raise funds for the charity. EVENT LOCATION The Ion, located at 4201 Main Street, is the 266,000 square foot anchor of the new innovation district designed to bring together the entrepreneurial, corporate, and academic communities. The Ion will add to the festivities by hosting technology demonstrations and activation events both inside and outside the building adjacent to the parking lot where a huge event tent will host the competition rain or shine.
