Featuring historians, a filmmaker, museum professionals, and educators, Pullman Rising is a one-of-a-kind experience for history lovers! Pullman Rising: A Pullman History Symposium, will feature guest presenters from the museum field, film-making, education, and legal profession. Topics will cover George Pullman's remarkable company town, sleeping car manufacturing and operations, the role of Porters, and the resurgence of Pullman as a National Park. Guest speakers include: Bill Blaylock: Recently retired from Texas Instruments management, he is a lifelong student of corporate and legal history. Mr. Blaylock chairs the Museum of the American Railroad’s Board of Trustees and is a contributor to its educational programs. Melissa Johnson: Professor Johnson teaches history at Collin College and specializes in turn-of-the-century industrial subjects. Ms. Johnson has amassed a career of knowledge on the Pullman Company. She gained an appreciation of its history and legacy after her years working for the Museum of the American Railroad in Fair Park. Bob LaPrelle: As President & CEO of the Museum of the American Railroad, Mr. LaPrelle has a passion for preserving our nation’s rich railroad heritage through preservation and museum work. He has extensive knowledge of rail passenger service during the peak of rail travel in the Twentieth Century, including the advent of Amtrak. Patience LeBlanc: As Frisco ISD’s Secondary Social Studies Coordinator, Ms. LeBlanc works closely with the Museum in establishing educational programs for the district’s 17 middle schools and 11 high schools. She recently planned and coordinated the successful launch of FISD’s African American Studies program which included field trips to the Museum of the American Railroad for each student. Rich Luckin: A veteran documentary filmmaker, Mr. Luckin has produced a number of programs on the nation’s most famous passenger trains and stations, as well as other popular history topics. Commissioned by Trains Magazine and PBS among others, Luckin is credited with several popular documentaries in the transportation field. Mr. Luckin has been honored with three Regional Emmy nominations and 44 national and local video awards. Luther C. Mason: Rev. Mason serves as pastor of the Historic Pullman United Methodist Church. He is one of Pullman’s most dynamic and innovative individuals today. Mason has an extensive knowledge of Pullman’s Greenstone Church including its construction and history. He also serves as project manager for its ongoing restoration through the “Raise Repair Restore” initiative. Rev. Mason is credited with reaching beyond the town of Pullman into surrounding neighborhoods to educate youth and encourage career paths in urban preservation projects.
