Lecture on Alexander von Humboldt, a German geographer, explorer, and scientist who is known as the "father of environmentalism." Join us for an afternoon with Dr. Sandra Rebok as she discusses her research on Alexander von Humboldt. Refreshments including beer and wine will be served and are included with ticket purchase. Dr. Sandra Rebok is a European scholar of German origin, with a strong interest in nineteenth-century transatlantic scientific collaboration. She seeks to understand the specific ways in which American and European scholarly communities were connected. Her research focuses on exploration voyages, intellectual networks, and transnational collaborations during the 19th century. She has over 20 years of experience in Humboldtian scholarship, she is the author of several books on Humboldt and the editor of three of his works in Spanish. Since October 2016 she has been working as an independent researcher, writer, speaker, science communicator, and scientific consultant. During the academic year 2021-2022, she is a Visiting Scholar at the History Department at University of California San Diego.
