WESTWOOD, MA - Heather Morrison, who has worked in education for more than 20 years, is running for Westwood School Committee. Morrison has lived n Westwood for 12 years with her husband and three children, Harper,Cooper and Quinn, all of whom attend Westwood Public Schools. "I have spent the last two years listening and participating in nearly every School Committeemeeting," she said. "During this time, I saw a need to improve the collaboration between the committee and the community. I want to be a voice and a resource to those who are not represented on the committee in order to improve our children's education." Morrison, who graduated from Miami University, began working in the residential program at New England Center for Children (NECC) in 1999. NECC provides comprehensive services tochildren with autism. While continuing to work full-time at NECC, she completed her Masters inApplied Behavior Analysis through Northeastern University. "I couldn't be more proud of Westwood as a leader in education, but these last two yearsshowed we can do better to prioritize our kids," Morrison continued. If elected Morrison said she will focus on academic excellence and social-emotional well-being through student-centered decisionmaking. She will also take a fact-based, data-driven approach while maintaining transparency and accountability to the Westwood community. Morrison said her job as director of administration "brings me joy and fulfillment, to be part ofthe education and success of an extraordinary group of students and their amazing teachersand support staff." She also is the leader of her school's Emergency Management Team. Throughout the pandemic she was able to keep their residential program open to provide in-person education while prioritizing student and staff safety. When she isn't cheering on her three children at sporting events, she can be seen around townwalking her two dogs. Morrison said she is excited to bring her knowledge and expertise regarding special education andschool administration to the Westwood School Committee and looks forward to hearing fromresidents about their priorities for the district and how we can work together to achieve them.
