Historical Walking Tour of Heritage Hill, one of the three largest historic districts in the country. Tuesday, March 29th at 6:00 p.m., Heritage Hill Association Historical Tour #1. In the 1960s, urban renewal efforts in downtown Grand Rapids called for demolishing up to 75% of the Victorian (and many other architectural styles) “homes on the hill” neighborhood, the city’s oldest residential district. Resident protest and impassioned leadership led to the organization of the Heritage Hill Association in 1968. The Association celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2018. This tour traverses a section of the stunning, tree-lined residential streets as your guide narrates bits of history and stories that commemorate the success of Heritage Hill’s special neighborhood association.
