WOODBRIDGE, VA — A car hit a pedestrian in Woodbridge on Tuesday morning, police said. First responders identified the victim as Robert Paul Lee King. They pronounced him dead at the scene. The crash occurred around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Cardinal Drive and Jefferson Davis Highway. A 59-year-old man was driving his 2011 Infiniti G37X north on Jefferson Davis Highway when he hit King, police said. Afterward, the driver went to a nearby business and contacted authorities. King was in a dimly lit section of the road outside of a crosswalk, according to police. Investigators believe King may have already been on the ground in the road before the Infiniti hit him. "It is currently unknown if the pedestrian was struck by another vehicle," the police department said. Authorities took King's body to the Office of the Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The police department's crash investigation unit is looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash. Witnesses can call the police department's tipline at 703-792-7000.
