FARMINGDALE, NY — Families heading to Adventureland this spring will see a new rollercoaster in the works, along with upgrades to the Farmingdale amusement park's arcade and new adult drinks. The park's 60th anniversary season begins on March 26. The new rollercoaster is called the FireBall and is the only one of its type on North America. It will be located near the swings, visible on Route 110. Owner Jeanine Gentile told Patch last year that the rollercoaster will be aimed for families, like all of Adventureland's rides. The Swiss-designed ride changes depending on the weight of the riders: as each car comes to the end of a horizontal line, the car will drop to the next level, giving riders the thrill of a free fall sensation. According to a recent news release, the park is also adding claw machines to the arcade and a new midway game called High Striker. For the parents, Tony's Tavern is adding wine slushies and margaritas, and a new limited edition Adventureland branded ale. Adventureland opened in 1962, starting with four rides. Now the park boasts 30 rides, and FireBall will be the third rollercoaster.
