BETHEL, CT — Bethel firefighters made good use of their recent ice rescue drills and equipment to rescue a dog from a pond Tuesday night. At 10:30, members of Bethel Fire & EMS and Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company received word of a dog that had fallen through the ice at a private pond on Walnut Hill Road. Crews donned cold water suits and quickly retrieved the pup from the pond without incident., according to Stony Hill officials. Bethel fire officials credited a recent drill reviewing their ice rescue equipment for helping the rescue go smoothly. Thawing ice can be "extremely dangerous," the firefighters warned on social media. " Should an animal fall through the ice, it is best to call 911, as we have the resources to help without risking your own safety."
