House Fire In Ashburn Injures 2 Residents, 1 Firefighter

ASHBURN, VA — A home caught fire on Oakmont Manor Square in Ashburn on Sunday. The blaze injured two residents and a firefighter, according to a report from the fire department. The fire broke out around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. The residents had returned to their townhouse and found smoke and fire on the first floor, authorities said. Firefighters from Kincora, Ashburn, Lansdowne, Cascades, Leesburg, and Fairfax, responded to help contain and extinguish the blaze. When the first units arrived on the scene, fire and smoke emitted from the home. They used hose lines to extinguish the fire, the Loudoun County Department of Fire and Rescue said. Firefighters had to evacuate the home as the blaze spread to the second floor and the roof. Units used ladder trucks to extinguish most of the fire from outside, which allowed firefighters to reenter the home and ensure that no embers remained. They also confirmed that the fire had not spread to neighboring homes, authorities said. One firefighter suffered a minor burn to his leg, the fire department said. He received treatment at a hospital in Lansdowne before medical personnel released him. Two residents of the home received treatment from paramedics on the scene. Emergency personnel then took them to Reston Hospital Center for further treatment. The fire marshal's office determined that the fire was accidental. Officials said a malfunctioning TV caused the blaze. Authorities estimated that the fire caused $587,000 in damages. They noted that neighboring homes incurred $165,000 in damages.
