Darien Virus Cases Up 24% In Week: Health Department

DARIEN, IL — The total number of coronavirus cases in Darien since the pandemic's beginning rose 24 percent in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department. That's higher than the 18 percent weekly increase statewide. As of Sunday, the number of cases was 653, up by 125 from a week before. The number of deaths from the coronavirus remained at eight, the same as it has been for weeks, according to the health department. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but only 2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload. As of Sunday, Darien had 30.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 27.1 in La Grange Park, 32.2 in Western Springs, 34.1 in Hinsdale, 34.3 in Clarendon Hills, 35.7 in Elmhurst, 36.1 in DuPage County, 41.2 in suburban Cook County, 41.9 in Burr Ridge and 43.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 573,6156, up 17.5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 10,742 state residents. Nationally, 10.8 million people have caught the virus, up 11 percent from the week before. A total of 244,810 people have died from the virus in the United States.
