DARIEN, IL — Darien saw 100 new coronavirus cases in the last week, or a 10 percent increase, according to the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, Darien had seen 957 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. That works out to 4.4 percent of Darien's population. The number of local deaths from the coronavirus increased by three from the previous week, totaling 12, according to the health department. That works out to less than a thousandth of a percent of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. As of Sunday, Darien had 44.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 40.4 in La Grange Park, 45.6 in Hinsdale, 46.8 in Western Springs, 52.1 in Elmhurst, 52.3 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 56.9 in suburban Cook County, 57.1 in Burr Ridge and 62.7 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 787,573, up 9.2 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 13,255 state residents. Nationally, 14.5 million people have caught the virus, up 10 percent from the week before. A total of 280,135 people have died from the virus in the United States.
