Description
POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Point Pleasant police officers responding to incidents will now have their interactions captured on video, as officers are now equipped with body-worn cameras, the department announced.
The cameras were purchased using an $85,596 grant from the state to comply with a statewide mandate requiring all uniformed police officers to wear body cameras on patrol. Fewer than half of the law enforcement agencies in New Jersey had the body cameras before the mandate.
Point Pleasant purchased 42 cameras, which cost more than $2,000 each.
"The cameras will typically be worn in the middle to upper chest area," the police department said.
Attorney General Gurbir Grewal pushed for cameras to help address accountability and transparency and help "strengthen trust between our officers and the diverse communities they serve."
