For the second straight year, Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center was recognized as one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals™, according to a national study by Healthgrades, a leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The recognition places the academic medical center in the top 5 percent in the country for consistently delivering high-quality clinical care. Also, for the third consecutive year, Jersey Shore University Medical Center was recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke CareTM and, for 2022, as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal SurgeryTM. “Our clinical teams are dedicated to providing advanced, high-quality and safe health care for our community,” said Vito Buccellato, MPA, LNHA, president and chief hospital executive, Jersey Shore University Medical Center. “I’m delighted that Healthgrades’ accolades are reflecting their commitment to excellence.” According to Healthgrades, America’s Best Hospitals™ consistently exhibit exceptional, comprehensive quality care, this premier distinction is based solely on clinical quality outcomes for 34 conditions and procedures. The online resource says that patients are more likely to have a successful treatment without major complications—and have a lower chance of dying—at America’s Best Hospitals™. The academic medical center was also recognized for the third straight year with Healthgrades’ Neurosciences Excellence Award, second consecutive Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award and, new for 2022, Cranial Neurosurgery Excellence Award. Additionally, Jersey Shore University Medical Center received five-star ratings in nine procedures and conditions, also covering superior cardiac and critical care. “This is a wonderful acknowledgment of the exemplary care provided at Jersey Shore,” said Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, regional president, Southern Market, Hackensack Meridian Health. “I’m particularly proud of the surgical recognitions, especially in neurosurgery. Our Neuroscience Institute at Jersey Shore continues to expand, adding new specialists, advanced technologies and leading-edge procedures for patients.” The Neuroscience Institute provides patients with a comprehensive line up of services for movement disorders, spine injuries, concussion, epilepsy, MS, brain tumors, memory, and more, as well as Monmouth and Ocean counties’ only Stroke Rescue Center. The institute’s ALS Center achieved ALS Association Certified Treatment Center of Excellence status in 2021 from the association’s National Office and the Greater Philadelphia Chapter. Healthgrades’ analysis is based on more than 45 million Medicare medical claims records and other select data for the most recent three-year time period available from nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
