TAMWORTH, NH — Tamworth Distilling, the New Hampshire craft distillery known for small-batch, historically-minded spirits is welcoming the return of a fan favorite: Art in the Age Cherry Bounce. This small-batch spirit is available while supplies last at the remote distillery. The inspiration for the spirit stemmed from Tamworth Distilling founder, and mind behind Hendrick's Gin, Steven Grasse, who used a recipe from First Lady Martha Washington's journals for Cherry Bounce - which included a tasty way to preserve fresh fruit all year round and flavor a spirit. To highlight this tradition, Tamworth Distilling used a rye whiskey base and infused cherries directly in the barrel. "Rye whiskey was purposefully chosen and distilled for its composition. The use of rye was to ensure the base spirit became a crucial (and historically accurate) part to the overall cordial," said Steven Grasse, Founder of Quaker City Mercantile. "Extracts were made of the various spices and botanicals and measured in to support this warm colonial spirit," Grasse added. "Apple Brandy was further added to elaborate the fruity top notes, and correspondence between Laird's of NJ (the first US distillery) and Washington proved he was a fan of American apple spirits!" This specialty spirit, presenting at 80 Proof, makes for a delicious component to craft cocktails, and can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks. Cherry Bounce ($49.99) is extremely limited as just 200 bottles are available for purchase -- it is available exclusively at Tamworth Distilling in Tamworth, New Hampshire and at the Art in the Age shop located in Philadelphia. For more information and recipe inspiration follow Tamworth Distilling on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. TASTING NOTES: Warm natural cherries flavors are enriched with baking spices. The richness of vanilla bean and the smoky qualities of black cardamom give a deep, almost leathery base to the cordial. The spices give way to a cherry pie, and the 40% alcohol spirit never lets it get too cloyingly sweet. INGREDIENTS: Straight rye whiskey stored in oak with cherries, apple brandy, and neutral spirits for infusing. Cherries, cherry juice, black cardamom, clove, vanilla bean, rose petal, nutmeg, cinnamon. SWEET LIPSCourtesy of Lee Noble, Mixologist at Art in the Age Ingredients: 1 ½ oz.
