GENEVA, IL — As spring cleaning gets underway, the City of Geneva is helping its residents out by offering two weeks of free yard waste pickup. On regular pickup days during the weeks of March 21 and March 28, residents can set yard waste bags to the curb — and no refuse sticker is required. The free yard waste disposal is part of the city's contract with Lakeshore Recycling Systems, officials said Wednesday. Starting April 7 and 8, refuse stickers will once again be needed on each bag of yard waste, ending the two free weeks. Residents will have until November to continue bringing yard waste bags to the curb. Filled Kraft brown bags should not weigh more than 50 pounds each, city officials noted. Accepted items include grass clippings, vines, weeds, leaves, plants, pinecones, small branches and garden waste. Tree limbs more than an inch in diameter should be disposed of during the city's monthly brush pickup scheduled to start in April. "While LRS strongly prefers the use of bags, residents who pay for a designated LRS yard waste cart also can use that cart during the free collection period," Geneva's announcement reads.
