Press release from the City of Woodbury: June 30, 2020 The City of Woodbury received an award for being a Step 4 and 5 city in the Minnesota GreenStep program. Woodbury is one of 140 participating cities and tribal nations in the 10-year-old challenge, assistance, and recognition program."This award shows community members and other cities across Minnesota that the City of Woodbury is taking great steps in the direction of energy and resource conservation and innovation," shared Jennifer McLoughlin, sustainability specialist and GreenStep program lead with Woodbury. To achieve Step 5 recognition, a city must improve in at least three metrics showing progress in sustainability. Woodbury showed improvement in ten metrics, including: renewable energy purchases by the city, solar purchases and installations by commercial and residential properties, parkland and trail expansion, tree planting, and carbon emissions from the city's fleet, city buildings and lighting. The City of Woodbury has worked hard to implement best practices in order to meet their own sustainability goals with support from the GreenStep program and their peers. Actions taken within the program focus on cost savings, energy use reduction, resource conservation, climate change, and the encouragement of civic innovation.
