SONOMA COUNTY, CA —Authorities identified 47-year-old Gabriel Wibier of Santa Rosa as the Sonoma County jail inmate who died Tuesday morning. Initial information indicated Wibier was in a single-occupancy cell at the Main Adult Detention Facility, 2777 Ventura Ave. in Santa Rosa, when he accepted breakfast at approximately 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, sheriff's Sgt. Juan Valencia said in a news release. About 10 minutes later, at 6:30 a.m., jail personnel found the Wibier unresponsive in the cell, the sergeant said. "Correctional deputies immediately began life-saving measures by performing CPR," Valencia said. "An ambulance was called and transported the inmate to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at approximately 7:20 a.m." Detectives with the sheriff's office contacted the Marin County Coroner's Office to handle coroner duties pursuant to the county's protocol for in-custody deaths. The investigation includes an autopsy to determine the cause of death. "We send our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time," Valencia said. Update: 12/02/20 @ 9:51 am. The male inmate, decedent, has been identified as Gabriel Wibier, 47 years old, Santa Rosa. Our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. https://t.co/JqyzZEwoOi— Sonoma Sheriff (@sonomasheriff) December 2, 2020
