Description
The Rotary Club of Healdsburg is marking the historic progress toward making this a polio-free world. In 1988 there were 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries every year. Today, polio cases have been reduced 99.9 percent, and just two countries continue to report cases: Afghanistan and Pakistan. Our Green Hair Day fundraiser has been our principal method for raising funds for the eradication of polio. Unfortunately, this year, due to the pandemic we had to go virtual. None-the-less, our club went forward with our efforts and raised $16,000 for the eradication of polio. When our club raised money through Green Hair Day, members of our club would contact friends, family, neighbors and business contacts for pledges in return for our members painting their hair green and then marching in the St Patrick's Day parade. We are uncertain how we will structure our efforts to raise funds for Green Hair Day in 2021 but we will be creative, have fun, and carry on.
