Seeking competent barn manager/working student/riding instructor for a unique dressage barn located near Fairbanks, Alaska. Drouin Spring Equine Center offers boarding, clinics, training, and onsite schooling shows. We focus on dressage with an emphasis in biomechanics for horse and rider. Equine assisted psychotherapy sessions are also offered on location. In addition, the proprietor offers lessons to riders year-round in outdoor arena and a heated indoor arena during winter months. Candidate must have prior groom/management experience and be detail oriented with excellent communication skills. Must have strong people and organizational skills combined with a strong work ethic and sense of professionalism. Experience with teaching riding lessons with children and youth will be considered. Opportunity for teaching lessons is available to the best suited candidate. Our team is devoted to maintaining the health and happiness of Drouin Spring Equine Center’s horses and clients, so we are committed to providing a supportive, friendly workplace for them. The working environment here is like most professional barns and can be fast paced, but we are organized and follow a clear schedule to help everything go smoothly. REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of equine nutrition, handling, grooming, safety, and horse behavior. Good organizational skills, keep clean and tidy barn and workspaces. Schedule consists of a flexible daytime schedule with required feedings and duties 5 days a week. Duties include and not limited to stall cleaning, horse care, blanketing, feeding, watering, grounds/arena maintenance, and fence repair. In the case of an emergency, communication and coordination with cleaning and feeding crew is required on off-days. Ability to hire, train and manage 2-4 additional barn staff is also necessary. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Must pass background check. REQUIRED KEY SKILLS • Drivers license • First-Aid • Equine First-Aid • Bandaging • People Skills ACCOMMODATION Required live-in on site. Lovely cabin (dry) on equine center property, appropriate size for a single person or couple. Well trained dog may be considered. Includes all utilities and internet. JOB BENEFITS Monthly stipend, housing and utilities including internet, free part-lease of horse on-site, and 1x week lessons with trainer following a 30-day orientation period.
