DARIEN, IL — The Darien Police Department released its latest blotter. Here is information from the reports:
Martha Gassmann, 55, of Darien, was cited about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a charge of retail theft. A store manager saw Gassmann bagging items without scanning in the self-checkout lane. Gassmann was released and given a date to appear in court. An officer was called about 7:30 a.m. Sunday to the 1000 block of Walnut Drive for a hit-and-run accident. The victims said they heard a loud noise in front of their house. They saw damage to a car parked on the north side of Walnut. The police have no information on the car that struck the parked one. James Monday, 28, of Downers Grove, was arrested about 1 p.m. Saturday near 83rd Street and Lemont Road on charges of DUI (drugs), operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was released and given a date to appear in court. Frederick McCarthy, 29, of Bolingbrook, was cited about 9 a.m. Saturday on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He was clocked going 65 mph in a 45 mph zone. McCarthy was released and given a date to appear in court. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
