DARIEN, IL — An Illinois state trooper received threats from a man he was arresting on a DUI charge over the weekend in Darien, prosecutors said Monday.
Late Saturday night, the state trooper was called to help a driver on the Darien side of Interstate 55. The driver, later identified as Christopher Brown, 28, of Chicago, had bloodshot, glassy eyes, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
When Brown failed field sobriety tests, the trooper placed him under arrest. According to a police report, Brown threatened to beat the officer. He also told the trooper, "I'm gonna bond out, I'm gonna get bond. You'll see" and that he would go to the trooper's house, police said.
Brown was also accused of saying to the trooper that he was going to "put the barrel of a gun in your mouth." A Darien police officer arrived to help with the arrest.
"The allegation that Mr. Brown allegedly threatened to put the barrel of a gun in the mouth of an Illinois State Trooper is extremely serious and will be met with the full force of the law," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the news release.
He thanked the Illinois state police and Darien police for their roles in the incident.
Brown's bond was set at $200,000. He was charged with threatening a public official, a felony, prosecutors said.
