18-20 hours per week. Opening or closing shifts available 7 days a week. Duties: - Provide assistance with facility space set-up, and maintains cleanliness and sanitation at Park District facilities. Work site is generally at the Leisure Center, the Northbrook Sports Center, or Techny Prairie Activity Center. - Setup and take-down of recreational spaces used for programs, activities and meetings. - Walkthroughs at facilities for security reasons and to inspect for safety and cleanliness. - General cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping and sanitizing, debris and trash removal. - Snow removal from sidewalks or walkways outside of District facilities. - Operates equipment for carpet vacuuming and floor waxing. - Operates the ice resurfacing machine if scheduled for work shifts at the Sports Center. - Assist with basic repair tasks like such as replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles. Job Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years old. Completion of four years of high school or equivalent required. Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors, and interact with customers and patrons in a positive manner. Must be able to follow written instructions and schedules to properly assist with room set-up and takedown and read warning labels on chemical cleaners. A valid driver's license is preferred, but not required. Work Conditions: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor settings. Work may be performed outdoors with exposure to warm and/or cool temperatures and/or icy conditions for short or long periods of time. Position may be exposed to high noise level, fumes, dust or odors (such as paint), uneven ground or varying heights (work on roof, use of a ladder). Works near or operates heavy machinery and/or equipment with vibrations and/or moving mechanical parts. Physical Requirements: Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and smell. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee works with chemical cleaners and sanitizers. The employee works around heavy machinery and may be exposed to risk of electrical shock. Frequently lift and/or move up to and more than 75 pounds; employee is allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 40 lbs. as a guideline. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
