Researchers at The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco are seeking participants for an exciting research study on improving the spatial navigational abilities of low-vision and blindness individuals through a unique rehabilitation training.
Measurements of the participant’s fMRI brain activity, virtual reality navigation, and behavioral skill tests which involve sensory, spatial, and memory will take place before, after, and 3-months after the rehabilitation training. The rehabilitation training will be conducted remotely 2 hours a day for 5 days after completing the first pre-training testing session.
You are eligible to participate if you are:
- 18 years or older
- English speaking
- Diagnosed low-vision or blind
- Right-hand dominant
- No metal implants, pacemakers, or tattoos
- No formal training in art
- Located in the San Francisco Bay Area
Participants will be compensated from $20 during training and testing and $30 per hour during the MRI testing, plus up to $20 for travel/parking reimbursement.

*Both the experimenter and participants will be required to undergo standard CDC's COVID-19 screening and protocols. Appropriate personal protective equipment (face mask, face shield, gloves) will be provided if needed and to be worn at all times.
