They address many aspects of community presentation, including picking up trash and fixing any needed outdoor repairs. Porters also mow grass, pull weeds, remove leaves, trim trees, and water lawns. They replace light bulbs to keep outdoor pathways well lit. Painting: Painting curbs, and exterior and interior touch up painting is a common task for porters Physical endurance – the job of an apartment maintenance technician is physically strenuous and requires the ability to stand, lift, climb, bend, push, pull, and kneel Communication skills – apartment maintenance helpers/porters need good communication skills to communicate solutions to apartment residents and follow up on repairs Organizational skills – the ability to keep track of multiple work orders and repairs, while prioritizing emergencies, is essential for apartment maintenance technicians
