HALF MOON BAY, CA — A Half Moon Bay man was arrested this week on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after police say he attacked another man with a skateboard. The victim suffered "major trauma to his head." It happened around 1:55 p.m. Tuesday on a walking trail near Friendly Acres ranch in Half Moon Bay, which is in the area of 2150 N. Cabrillo Highway, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's officials say they were called about an assault on the trail and found the man with a head wound, who quickly identified his assailant. "It was ultimately determined the victim was struck in the head with a skateboard after the two had an argument," sheriff's officials said. "After being struck by the skateboard, the victim suffered major injuries." The unidentified victim was rushed to Stanford Hospital. "Prior to Sheriff's Office Deputies arrival, Suspect Derek Thomas Bullene fled the scene with the skateboard, leaving his bicycle behind at the location of the assault," the sheriff's office said. "Bullene was contacted at his [Half Moon Bay] residence ... and subsequently taken into custody without incident."
