Heeler mix looking for loving forever home

Description

This is Rodeo. I rescued him from San Antonio a month ago right before the big freeze hit. He was found in the rain under someone's porch, starving and dehydrated. I took him in and have been getting him back to full health. He's had his shots (just waiting on his last rabies shot coming up this weekend), has had preventative heartworm meds, flea meds, is microchipped (can easily be transferred), and just needs to be neutered (you can get a voucher to get this done for free I just haven't had the time). Now that he's healthy and happy I'm ready to find him his forever home. I'm asking a small adoption fee to recoup costs from his rescue. About Rodeo: He's VERY heeler like in the sense he is high energy, extremely smart, and very loyal. Heelers are "velcro dogs." I don't have other animals so I don't know how he would do around other pets but he adores the next door neighbor's dog (they meet up every morning and afternoon) and seems generally curious around other dogs, no clue about cats. While he's high energy he also loves to be cozy and sleep. He's a heavy dog (50 pounds) but 100% thinks he's a lap dog. He is very protective but not aggressive. Once you are part of his 'family' he will use his deep bark to try to scare away anything or anyone he thinks is a 'bad guy' - a leaf blowing in a wind, a weird painting on your wall he hasn't seen before. When I first brought him home he was very protective of me and would try to shield my body from anyone who came in my home he didn't know. I've never seen anything like it! But at the end of the day he is a goofy, lovable boy who wouldn't hurt a fly. I have no idea if he would be good with kids. Please keep in mind heelers love to herd, he will absolutely try to herd you and anyone else, and heelers are known to 'nip' while herding, though he hasn't done that very much with me or my partner. He'd do best in a home with a big yard or even on a farm or small plot of land. He needs to get his exercise in and shouldn't just be restrained to someone's apartment. If you're interested in meeting Rodeo or have questions please email me, thanks! I will be picky with who he goes home to, he is a beautiful and loving, sweet boy.
