22nd DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day - Saturday April 30, 2022 – 10AM to 2PM Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. That's why the Community Ambulance Company partnering with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), United States Congressman Andrew Garbarino, New York State Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo, Islip Town Councilman Jim O’Connor and the Great South Bay Coalition will be participating in hosting the 21st DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday April 30,2022 from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. The public can drop off expired or unused medications at the Community Ambulance Company located at 420 Lakeland Avenue in Sayville. The drop off location is conveniently located in the front of the building, making it easy to drive up, drop off the medications without delay and exit out the back of the building. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of expired or unused prescription medications, protecting the environment while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. - Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse. - Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision. - The non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in America. - The majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family and friends — and the home medicine cabinet. - Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold. Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.
