Learn how the latest AI and medical technology is enabling detection of the first cancerous cell, paving the way to save countless lives. Turning Cancer Care on its Head: Using AI to detect the First CellWhile it has been universally recognized that early detection of cancer is the key determinant of patient survival, there has been limited success in the ability of medical professionals to detect cancer early enough – until now! We invite you to join Dr. Azra Raza, Chan Soon-Shiong Professor of Medicine and Director of the MDS Center at Columbia University, Honorable Mark Kirk, Former U.S. Senator for Illinois, and Syed Alam, Founder & CEO of accentedge as they discuss how it is now within reach to detect the first cancerous cell through artificial intelligence technology developed by accentedge. This groundbreaking technology that won the top award in 2021 at the Innovation Leaders Summit in Tokyo for digital biomarker technology is revolutionizing the way scientists, researchers and physicians detect the first signs of cancer. Dr. Raza, a world-renowned pioneer in early detection and treatment of cancer and the author of the book The First Cell: And the human costs of pursuing cancer to the last, will discuss why she chose accentedge’s technology to assist her in analyzing one of the largest, most exclusive repositories of human cancer pathological samples in her lifelong quest to find a cure for cancer. Mark Kirk Former U.S. Senator for Illinois, accentedge Advisor Senator Mark Kirk served 16 years in the U.S. Congress, as a member of the House of Representatives for Illinois’ 10th District from 2001 to 2010 and as the U.S. Senator for Illinois from 2010 to 2017. A moderate Republican throughout his career, Kirk was ranked one of the most bi-partisan members of Congress. Kirk has spent most of his career in public service. A cum laude graduate of Cornell University, Kirk also holds a master’s degree from London School of Economics and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law School. His early career included serving as Chief of Staff for Illinois Congressman John Porter, working for the World Bank, the U.S. State Department, Baker and McKenzie Law firm and the House International Relations Committee – before being elected to Congress in 2000. Kirk also served for 23 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve, from 1989 to 2013. He was the Intelligence Officer for VAQ-209 – a squadron flying the EA-6B electronic radar jamming aircraft. Kirk received numerous awards for his service in Panama providing U.S. drug interdiction support, in Iraq, defending the no-fly zone as part of Operation Northern Watch, in Kosovo, leading allied air coordination during the Kosovo War and in Afghanistan supporting the U.S. mission against the Taliban. He retired from the Navy in 2013 with the rank of Commander. Following in the footsteps of his predecessor and former boss, Congressman John Porter, Kirk was a champion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and funding for NIH research. As a member of the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, Kirk helped lead the effort to increase NIH funding to $32 billion in FY16, a $2 billion increase over FY15 – the largest increase in over a decade. Kirk served as Vice-Chair of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus and as a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee where he was instrumental in drafting the Healthier Innovations for America Bill. This legislation, the Senate counterpart to the House’s 21st Century Cures Act, passed 344-77, improving health care innovation and encouraging the development of the next generation of cures and treatments. In 2012, Kirk suffered a stroke which left him partially paralyzed and unable to walk. Working with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Kirk regained his ability to walk and 6 months after his stroke climbed 37 floors of Chicago’s Willis Tower. In 2013, Kirk walked up the stairs of the U.S. Capitol joined by Vice President Joe Biden and his Senate colleagues. Retired from politics, Kirk is an advocate for stroke awareness and helping others who have experienced a stroke. He continues to travel and consult in areas of healthcare, education, trade and national and international security.
