Through the NCBA Pro Se Custody Clinic, paralegal and attorney volunteers will assist eligible clients to complete the forms needed to file a pro se custody complaint in Wake County family law court.
Only Wake County residents or biological parents of children who live in Wake County are eligible for this clinic.
This clinic CANNOT serve you if:
A custody complaint has already been filed;There is a custody order in place already, either in North Carolina or in another state;You need an emergency custody order because the children are in danger; orYour parental rights have been terminated.You will need to complete an interview by phone in the weeks prior to the clinic; if you do not complete this interview, you cannot be served at the clinic even if you have a confirmed appointment. Shortly after you register for the clinic, you will receive an email or phone call from a volunteer paralegal to complete your interview.
On the day of the clinic, you will need to appear in person at 311-200 Martin Street, Raleigh, NC 27601, at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. If you arrive late, we cannot guarantee your appointment. You will need to wear a mask. Due to space constraints, we ask that you bring no more than one other person with you. Please try to arrange for childcare on the day of your appointment, if possible.
