Underground Atlanta, the historic, 400,000-square-foot “city beneath the city,” invites the community to experience Underground at every level, giving attendees the opportunity to get a peek behind and below the scenes for a taste of what was, what is and what will be.
Tour attendees will meet at the Peach Drop Tower at their designated reservation time, where the famous New Year’s Eve Peach Drop debuted in 1989. As they stroll under the viaducts and through Humbug Square, the community will be brought back to the century-old spaces party-goers frequented during prohibition, as many basements were turned into makeshift juke joints where people would gather to drink and be merry. Just listen to the lyrics of Bessie Smith’s 1920s song Preaching the Blues: “Down in Atlanta, GA, under the viaduct ev'ry day, drinking corn and hollerin' hooray, Pianos playing till the break of day.”
All Phoenix Flies programs adhere to current City of Atlanta health and safety guidelines. All guests, program partners, and employees must wear CDC approved masks for the duration of their visit.
