" Except it's the GOP in the Washington legislature that protects and supports this ridiculously unfair and uneven taxation scheme. All we need to fix it is a state income tax---then the current taxes will go down (mostly sales taxes) for the lower and middle earners and the wealthy will finally be taxed more in line with everyone else based on their incomes. It's been proven-out in the 90% of states that have a state income tax. Every single Republican in the WA state legislature voted against changing to an income tax in 2021. In fact, their website currently states that the ridiculously UNFAIR levels of taxation listed above (they're actually worse than that when you include ALL income rather than just wage income) is something they consider perfectly fair and balanced. Their exact quote: "...Yet our current system is fair to all economic classes." Republicans freak out over that notion of replacing most sales taxes with a simplified income tax but all it would mean is that everyone would owe roughly the same percentage of their income in taxes. OMG OMG OMG! What a notion!
