Government Building Could Be Re-Named For Reginald LaFayette

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Local officials are hoping to name Mount Vernon's County Office Building after Reginald A. LaFayette, a longtime Westchester leader who died in January. County Executive George Latimer has introduced legislation to rename the building located at 10 East First Main St., Mount Vernon, the "Reginald A. LaFayette County Office Building," he announced in a news conference on Tuesday. LaFayette, who died suddenly in January at age 69, spent years working for the city of Mount Vernon — he started as a deputy comptroller, then spent 14 years as city clerk. Now, pending a vote by the Board of Legislators on Latimer's proposal, LaFayette's name will be permanently enshrined in the office building. "Reggie was a friend, confidant and life-long partner in public service," Latimer said in a statement. "While no words or actions can bring back the man we loved, and lost, this legislation will help forever cement his legacy in Mount Vernon, Westchester County and New York State."
