MILWAUKEE, WI — Bakeries across the Milwaukee area have been preparing for "pączki day." Many may already be familiar with the fried donut-like treat that is often filled with jelly and served with sugar on top for Fat Tuesday. The treats pop up at supermarkets and bakeries across the area around this time of year, ahead of Lent, as a tradition rooted in Polish heritage. For most locations offering the treat, pre-ordering has been highly recommended, so as usual, it's suggested you call ahead to check supplies. There are plenty of spots around the Milwaukee area where you can take part in this time-honored tradition, here are a few: North Shore Boulangerie - Sendik's on Downer North Shore Boulangerie is frying fresh pączki outside of Sendik's at 2643 North Downer Avenue in Milwaukee as long as supplies last. A line has already picked up as of about 8:30 a.m. NSB said in a Facebook post curbside service is available so you can "watch us fry and serve right next to your car!" Aggie's Bakery and Cake Shop Aggie's Bakery and Cake Shop, located at 7328 West Greenfield Avenue in West Allis, is selling pączki in-store and via drive-thru while supplies last, the business posted on Facebook. An assorted 6-pack can be picked up for $9 by entering the drive-thru line in the alley behind the bakery (on 73rd Street off of Madison Street, one block north of Greenfield Avenue.), the Facebook post said. Aggie's said it is also offering King Cake, and both of the treats are available when supplies last. Call: 414-482-1288. National Bakery and Deli National Bakery and Deli, which has a few locations in the Milwaukee area, will be selling paczki on Fat Tuesday, according to a report by OnMilwaukee.com. With locations at 5637 Broad Street in Greendale, 3200 South 16th Street in Milwaukee and 13820 Greenfield Avenue in Brookfield, there are plenty of spots to check for paczki. Greendale: (414) 423-4620 Brookfield: (262) 827-4097 Milwaukee: (414) 672-1620 Old World Polish Deli Another Greendale location, Old World Polish Deli, located at 7630 Grange Avenue, plans on making several flavors of paczki available. Pre-ordering was highly recommended, according to a report by OnMilwaukee.com Call: (414) 855-0470. Lakeside Bakery Lakeside Bakery, located at 1100 East Oklahoma Avenue, said via Facebook it was making apple, lemon, custard, raspberry, prune and blueberry paczki for Fat Tuesday. Supplies are limited, the bakery posted on Facebook. Call: 414-486-7747. Open 6:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Scordato Italian Bakery Scordato, located at 5011 West Howard Avenue, has paczki available on Fat Tuesday, the business said on Facebook. "We've got 'em, but they're flying out the door!" the post reads. The spot is open from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Flavors include raspberry, prune, apricot, lemon, bavarian, cannoli cream and Nutella. The treats will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in celebration of Fat Tuesday, the Facebook post said. Jen's Sweet Treats Located at 4745 Packard Avenue in Cudahy, Jen's Sweet Treats is offering numerous flavors of paczki. The spot is open until 6 p.m, according to its Facebook page.
