LEESBURG, VA — An assault in Leesburg resulted in charges for a Dumfries man on Monday. The Leesburg Police Department said the man, Ishmael Melomey, is charged with aggravated malicious wounding. The assault occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday, according to the Leesburg Police Department. A caller told police that a man was striking a woman in the upper body. The caller also said that the suspect ran away, but another man was chasing him, police said. When officers arrived on the scene, the second man was detaining the suspect, according to the police report. Police took the suspect into custody without any other issues. They identified the suspect as Melomey. First responders took the assault victim to the hospital. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said. The man who helped detain the suspect suffered minor injuries. He received treatment at the scene, according to authorities. "We would like to thank members of the community who provided our officers with the suspect's description and direction of travel, as well as assisted in the detention of the suspect," the Leesburg Police Department said. "The assistance of these witnesses led to the quick and safe apprehension of an armed violent suspect." Melomey faces one count of aggravated malicious wounding. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. Authorities are looking to speak with anyone else who may have witnessed the assault. Witnesses can contact Detective C.
