GILROY, CA — A party involving about 200 high school students has stirred concerns about the spread of the coronavirus after at least one student has already tested positive for the virus. The Oct. 16 party involved students from Christopher High School and Gilroy High School, the Gilroy Unified School District said in a statement. The GUSD is urging all students ages 14 to 18 to get tested. Increased testing is particularly important in this situation because rates of infection and positivity rates in Gilroy are higher than other parts of the County, the District said. A special free COVID-19 testing center for District students has been set up at the South County Annex (formerly Del Buono Elementary) at 9300 Wren Ave. in Gilroy. This location is open Tuesday to Friday (Oct. 27-30) from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. No advance appointment is required. Additional appointment-based locations for next week can be found at www.sccfreetest.org. Those with health insurance can also contact their healthcare provider. "The goal is to test high school students in the district and then work with their families if an individual has a positive result," the District said in a statement.
