BURKE, VA — There have been many business openings and closings over the years, but some closed businesses are especially missed in Burke. We asked readers businesses they wished they could bring back, no matter how long ago they were from. Several comments came in as readers shared names of their favorite businesses of years past. From recently closed businesses to those popular years or decades ago, readers shared a variety of businesses. Some businesses received multiple mentions. One of the top mentions was Cedar Cafe, which closed in December 2020 after two decades in Burke. Chef Islam Bakeer said at the time he was "is ready to head back home to his wife and kids, who have been living in Jordan for the last few years, patiently awaiting his return." Cedar Cafe dated back to 2000, when Bakeer and his wife Eman opened the restaurant. The menu offered a taste of Lebanon with foods like shawarma, kabob, and mazza platters. Victor's Pizza Den also was mentioned by several readers. Located in Old Keene Mill Shopping Center, Victor's closed in 2017 after serving the community since the 1970s. Another reader said they missed the Cici's Pizza in the area. Readers also missed the food at Tau Tau Restaurant on Shiplett Blvd. near Pohick Regional Library and Tiyaki Grill on Old Keene Mill Road near Rolling Road.
