4 Charged With Prostitution At Secaucus Motel

SECAUCUS, NJ — The Secaucus Police Department is continuing its mission to end prostitution that happens at motels in town. Last Monday, Presidents' Day, the Secaucus Police Department "vice" squad, officially known as its anti-crime unit, charged three women with engaging in prostitution. A fourth person, a man, was their pimp, said police. He was charged with promoting prostitution. Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller formed the vice squad about two years ago, to combat what he said were ongoing problems of prostitution, crime and drugs at the many hotels and motels in Secaucus — a town just 15 minutes outside New York City and in the shadow of the Giants/Jets MetLife football stadium, concert venue and horse racetrack. In the past, Secaucus Police officers posed as undercover clients soliciting the women for sex. It is unknown if that tactic was used last week. At 8:09 p.m. on Feb. 21, Secaucus Police charged Vanessa Garrido, 27, of Union City with engaging in prostitution, and promoting prostitution. That same night, at 9:49 p.m., police arrested Zulay Guerrero, 39, of Jamaica, Queens and charged her with engaging in prostitution and promoting it. Then at 11:48 p.m., police charged Rosmery Perdomoarmas, 29, of Elizabeth with engaging in prostitution and charged a man, Decnis Cambonmiranda, 29, of Union City with promoting prostitution. All four of them were issued summonses to appear in court and released from police custody. Secaucus Police would not say which motel this happened at, as police work is likely ongoing on this particular motel. "I composed an anti-crime unit to proactively address crime, and the unit focuses on vice crimes through town, especially in the hotels," Police Chief Miller told Patch on Tuesday. "Proactively addressing underlying prostitution-related offenses suppresses other crimes that come along with that illicit activity, such as drug dealing, sexual assaults, robberies and weapon-related offenses."
